Adventures in Rhythm Scheduling Information
Adventures in Rhythm Residencies can be
scheduled for 3-15 days with 4-6 classes a day. Student numbers should be limited to approximately
25 or less and class times can be schedule for 30-60 minutes, depending on the length or their
normal special area time. Ten minutes should be scheduled between each class to to allow time for
resetting the instruments and preparing equipment for the next class. The same students must be seen
each day of the instruction because activities build on the concepts and skills learned during the
previous days. This residency is most appropriate for second grade to middle school students.
However, it can be done with mature, second semester, first graders.
The following are sample
schedules which may be of assistance when planning your residency.
They are examples of the most common schedules we experience and whenever possible, we prefer to
schedule in this manner:

Adventures in Rhythm Assemblies are only
available to schools booking 7 or more residency days. Without 7 days of instruction, students will not have the necessary time to
compose, learn, and "polish" enough music to perform in a student production. However,
Adventures does offer several different performance options to schools scheduling less
time.
Residencies 5 days or more have the options
of:
video taping a short demonstration during the last class of
the residency which can be used on a school morning news program or in any context the school wishes
gathering all participating students on the afternoon of the last day to demonstrate
in front of other participating classes
hosting a 30-60 minute PTO/PTA or Parent Night where the Artist and students
demonstrate each step of the residency through the performing of student compositions. There are
opportunities for audience participation and student work will be highlighted. This is a perfect
option for schools wanting to get their parents more involved in the Arts or wanting to gain parent
support for a newly-formed "STOMP-like" percussion ensemble. (This option is an additional
fee.)
Residencies 4 days in length have the
options of:
video taping a short demonstration during the last class of
the residency which can be used on a school morning news program or in any context the school wishes
gathering all participating students on the afternoon of the last day to demonstrate
in front of other participating classes
Residencies
3 days in length have the option of:
video taping a short demonstration during the last class of
the residency which can be used on a school morning news program or in any context the school
wishes
It is imperative that the music teacher be present and participate in the residency activities in order to have a
school receive the full benefits Adventures in Rhythm has to offer. All Adventures in Rhythm residencies, regardless of length, will leave music
teachers with the information and necessary skills to implement their own "STOMP-like"
percussion ensemble. He or she will be able to share the residency materials year after year with
students. Please be advised that if the music teacher is not allowed to observe each day of the
residency, the school will not have the tools needed to implement their own ensemble nor will they
receive maximum and lasting benefit from the residency activities.
